Retargeting & Remarketing Campaigns

Retargeting campaigns are often the cheapest conversions in an account, which is exactly why they need careful measurement. Many of the people they reach would have bought anyway, so we build audiences and messages that change behavior rather than just claim credit. Retargeting runs across every platform in our PPC management services, from Google Ads to Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn.

Quick answer

What is Retargeting & Remarketing Campaigns?

Retargeting campaigns show ads to people who already interacted with your business, such as website visitors, cart abandoners, video viewers, or past customers. Also called remarketing, they use audiences from ad platform pixels, analytics tools, and customer lists to bring people back with messages matched to what they viewed or how close they were to buying.

What's included

What you get with retargeting.

  • Audience map by behavior: product viewers, cart and checkout abandoners, leads, and past customers
  • Audience setup across Google, Meta, TikTok, and LinkedIn using pixels, GA4, and customer lists
  • Message and creative sequences matched to each audience stage
  • Frequency caps and membership windows to avoid ad fatigue
  • Exclusions for recent buyers and existing customers where appropriate
  • Dynamic product ads for e-commerce catalogs
  • Holdout or incrementality checks to measure real added sales

Who it's for

  • E-commerce stores with steady traffic and a meaningful share of abandoned carts
  • B2B and service companies with long consideration periods before someone gets in touch
  • Advertisers who suspect retargeting is getting credit for sales it did not cause
How it works

How we deliver retargeting.

  1. 1

    Map the audiences

We identify the behaviors that signal buying intent and confirm your tracking captures them accurately.

  2. 2

    Match the message

Each audience gets a reason to come back: answers to objections, social proof, product details, or an offer when margins allow.

  3. 3

    Control frequency and overlap

Caps, exclusions, and budget limits keep retargeting from crowding out prospecting or annoying customers.

  4. 4

    Measure the lift

We compare retargeted and held-out groups where volume allows, so you know what retargeting truly adds.

What is the difference between retargeting and remarketing?

Retargeting and remarketing are now used almost interchangeably: both mean reaching people who already engaged with your brand. Historically, retargeting referred to showing ads based on browsing behavior, while remarketing meant re-engaging past customers, often by email.

Google uses the term remarketing in its ad products, while many other platforms and marketers say retargeting. In practice, we plan both together, combining website and app behavior with customer lists so the right people see the right follow-up.

Does retargeting actually work?

Retargeting works when it changes what people do, but platform reports usually overstate its impact because they credit sales from people who were already going to buy. That is why retargeting often shows the highest return on ad spend in an account, and why that number deserves skepticism, as we explain in why ROAS is lying to you.

To find the real effect, we use holdout groups where volume allows, keep retargeting budgets proportionate to prospecting, and track blended results. If retargeting is mostly claiming credit, we cut it back and move spend to finding new customers.

How do privacy changes affect retargeting audiences?

Privacy changes make retargeting audiences smaller and less complete, because consent requirements, browser tracking limits, and ad blockers stop some visitors from being recorded. Audiences built only from a browser pixel now miss part of your traffic.

We reduce the gap with consent-aware tracking, server-side events, and first-party data such as customer and lead lists uploaded with consent. Our tracking setup guide covers the foundations. When retargeting is part of a wider plan, we can also scope it on a call through our contact page.

FAQ

Retargeting questions.

It depends on how long people take to decide. Short windows suit impulse purchases, while considered purchases and B2B services need longer windows. We set membership durations based on your sales cycle and adjust them based on results.

Retargeting is usually priced as part of a wider paid advertising engagement, and our fees are custom based on the platforms and campaigns involved. Media spend is paid to each ad platform separately. Our pricing page explains how we scope a plan.

There is no universal number. We set frequency caps where the platform supports them, watch frequency and performance together, and refresh creative when results drop, so people see enough to remember you without feeling followed.

Usually you should exclude recent buyers from ads for the product they just bought. Past customers can still be a valuable audience for repeat purchases, cross-sells, or new launches, with their own message and budget.
