Cross-Platform App Development (React Native & Flutter)

Cross-platform app development lets you ship to iPhone and Android from a single codebase, with one team and one release process. We build with React Native and Flutter as part of our app development services, and we write native modules when a feature needs them. If your roadmap leans heavily on device-specific features, we will tell you when native iOS and Android development is the better fit.

Quick answer

What is Cross-Platform App Development?

Cross-platform app development is building one mobile app codebase that runs on both iOS and Android, usually with React Native or Flutter. Most screens and business logic are shared, while platform-specific code is added where needed. It typically reduces duplicated work and keeps features in sync across both platforms.

What's included

What you get with cross-platform apps.

  • Framework recommendation (React Native or Flutter) with written reasoning
  • Shared UI component library that respects iOS and Android conventions
  • Native modules in Swift or Kotlin for features the framework does not cover
  • API integration, authentication, offline storage and push notifications
  • Over-the-air update setup where the platform rules allow it
  • CI/CD pipeline for automated builds to TestFlight and Google Play testing tracks
  • Store submission for both platforms and post-launch maintenance

Who it's for

  • Startups and growing companies that need iOS and Android without two separate teams
  • Businesses with a React or JavaScript team that want to reuse skills and code
  • Brands with a custom visual design that must look consistent on every device
How it works

How we deliver cross-platform apps.

  1. 1

    Assess

We map your features against each framework's strengths, your existing team's skills and any web code you could share.

  2. 2

    Design once, adapt twice

One design system, with platform-specific touches for navigation, gestures and system controls where users expect them.

  3. 3

    Build and automate

Shared code, native modules where needed, and automated testing that runs on every change so regressions are caught before release.

  4. 4

    Ship to both stores

Coordinated releases to the App Store and Google Play, then a single backlog for improvements on both platforms.

React Native or Flutter: which should I choose?

Choose React Native if your team already works in JavaScript or TypeScript and React, or if you want to share logic with a React or Next.js web app. It renders real native components, has a large ecosystem of libraries, and its newer architecture has made communication with native code more efficient.

Choose Flutter if you want pixel-consistent custom UI across platforms and are comfortable with Dart. Flutter draws its own interface with its rendering engine, which makes complex, branded designs and animations predictable on every device. Its widget library is extensive and well documented.

Both are mature, production-ready choices backed by large companies. The better question is which one fits your team, your design and your existing code. We document the recommendation so a future team understands why it was made.

What are the limits of cross-platform apps?

The main limit is that new platform features can arrive in the frameworks later than in native SDKs, and some advanced features need custom native code. Examples include certain widget types, advanced background processing, low-level Bluetooth work and some hardware-specific camera features.

That does not usually mean a full rewrite. Both frameworks let you write native modules in Swift and Kotlin for the parts that need them while keeping the rest shared. Performance is rarely a problem for typical business apps when the app is built carefully, with attention to list rendering, images and unnecessary re-renders.

If your product is more of a browser experience than a store app, a progressive web app may be simpler still. We are happy to compare all three options on a short call with our team.

FAQ

Cross-platform apps questions.

It can, when it is built with platform conventions in mind. We adapt navigation, gestures, typography and system dialogs to each platform so the app feels at home on both iPhone and Android.

It often reduces cost because most code is written once, but the savings depend on how much platform-specific work your features need. We estimate both options during scoping so you can compare them on your real feature list. Our pricing page explains how projects are scoped and billed.

Yes, and it can be done gradually. Both frameworks can be added to existing native apps screen by screen, which lowers risk compared with a single big rewrite.

Small JavaScript or asset changes can sometimes be delivered over the air within the rules set by Apple and Google. Changes to native code, permissions or core functionality still require a normal store release.
