Answer Engine Optimization (AEO)
Answer engine optimization makes your pages the easiest source to quote when someone asks a question your business can answer. It is a focused part of our SEO services: we find the questions your buyers ask, then rewrite and mark up your content so the answer is clear, accurate and extractable.
Quick answer
What is Answer Engine Optimization?
Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the practice of structuring content so search engines and assistants can extract it as a direct answer, in featured snippets, People Also Ask boxes, voice results and AI summaries. It relies on question-led headings, concise answers placed first, valid structured data and consistent facts about your brand across the web.
What you get with aeo.
- Question research from People Also Ask, search data, sales calls and support tickets
- Answer-first rewrites of priority pages with concise definitions and lists
- Question-based heading structure and on-page FAQ sections
- Structured data audit and implementation (FAQPage, Article, Product, Organization)
- Entity consistency review of your name, services and facts across the site and listings
- Featured snippet and People Also Ask tracking for target questions
Who it's for
- Businesses whose buyers research with specific questions before they buy
- Sites with strong expertise buried in long, unstructured pages
- Teams that want their content ready for both classic search and AI summaries
How we deliver aeo.
- 1
Collect the questions
We gather the real questions buyers ask, from search results and keyword tools to your own sales and support conversations.
- 2
Map answers to pages
Each question gets one best page, planned alongside your SEO content strategy so answers do not compete with each other.
- 3
Rewrite and mark up
We put a direct, quotable answer near the top of each section, support it with detail, and add structured data that matches the visible content.
- 4
Track and refine
We monitor snippets, People Also Ask placements and clicks, and adjust wording and structure where competitors win the answer.
What is the difference between AEO and GEO?
AEO is about winning a specific answer: being the source a search engine extracts for a featured snippet, a People Also Ask box, a voice response or a short AI summary of one question. It works at the level of individual pages and questions, and most of the levers are formatting and clarity.
GEO, or generative engine optimization, is about being found and cited by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Mode when they compose longer answers. It leans more on brand-level signals: entity consistency, original evidence, third-party mentions and crawler access. The two overlap, and pages built well for AEO are a strong starting point for GEO.
How do you format content for featured snippets and answer engines?
Answer the question in the first sentence under a heading that matches how people phrase it, in roughly 40 to 60 words, then expand with detail, examples and caveats. Use numbered lists for processes, bulleted lists for options and simple tables for comparisons, because those formats are easy to extract.
Keep one main question per section, define terms plainly and avoid burying the answer behind introductions. Our article on SEO in the age of AI answers walks through examples of answer-first writing.
Does schema markup still matter for AEO in 2026?
Yes, but for understanding more than for visual enhancements. Google limited FAQ rich results to a small set of authoritative sites in 2023 and retired HowTo rich results around the same time, so FAQ markup rarely adds a visible feature in standard search now. It still gives machines an unambiguous version of your questions, answers, products and organization details.
Structured data must match what is visible on the page, and it works best when the same facts (name, address, services, prices) are consistent everywhere your brand appears. To see whether answer visibility leads to visits and leads, your analytics need to be set up properly, which our GA4 setup service covers. Contact us to talk through your priority questions.

AEO questions.
No. Search engines and AI systems decide which source to show, and those decisions change often. What we can do is make your content the clearest, best-supported answer available, which improves your chances over time.
We track featured snippet and People Also Ask ownership for target questions, impressions and clicks in Google Search Console, and the conversions those pages drive in analytics. We also log manual checks of how assistants answer your priority questions.
For simple factual questions, a direct answer can satisfy the searcher without a click. That is why we prioritize questions where the answer naturally leads to a next step, such as comparing options, getting a quote or understanding a process in more depth.
Voice assistants usually read a single answer, often drawn from the same sources as featured snippets. Optimizing for clear, concise answers covers voice as a byproduct, so it rarely needs a separate project.
Pricing is custom and depends on how many pages and questions we cover and whether we implement structured data directly. AEO is often bundled with content or technical SEO work. Our pricing page explains how engagements are structured.
