GA4 Setup & Configuration

Our GA4 setup service gives you a Google Analytics 4 property built around your actual funnel, not the default install that tracks page views and little else. We plan what to measure, implement it through Google Tag Manager, test every event and connect GA4 to your ad accounts. It is the foundation for everything else in our marketing analytics services.

Quick answer

What is GA4 Setup & Configuration?

A GA4 setup service is the planning, implementation and testing of a Google Analytics 4 property so it records the actions that matter to your business. It covers data streams, key events, consent mode v2, Google Tag Manager tags, cross-domain tracking, ad platform links and documentation, so reports and ad bidding run on accurate data.

How it works

How we deliver ga4 setup.

  1. 1

    Audit and plan

We review your current GA4 property and GTM container, list what is broken or missing, and agree on a measurement plan tied to revenue or qualified leads, with a fixed scope based on how we price projects.

  2. 2

    Implement

We build tags, triggers and a data layer spec for your developers, then configure key events, audiences and consent mode v2 inside GA4.

  3. 3

    Test and validate

Every event is checked in GTM preview and GA4 DebugView, then compared against your CRM or store orders so the numbers reconcile.

  4. 4

    Hand over

You get documentation and a walkthrough. If you need more resilient data next, we can extend the setup with server-side tracking or build Looker Studio marketing dashboards on top of it.

What should you track in GA4?

You should track the actions that move a visitor closer to revenue: purchases or qualified form submissions as key events, plus the micro steps before them such as add to cart, begin checkout, pricing page views or demo bookings. Tracking everything creates noise; tracking only page views leaves you blind.

Each event needs useful parameters, for example value, currency, item details or lead type, so you can segment results later. Marking only true business outcomes as key events also matters because those are what you import into Google Ads for bidding. Our Google Ads management team relies on exactly that signal.

Why is my GA4 data different from my CRM or Shopify?

GA4 rarely matches your backend exactly, because ad blockers, declined consent, browser privacy limits and duplicate or missing tags all affect what the browser reports. The goal is a gap you understand and can explain, not a perfect match.

A proper setup removes the avoidable causes: duplicated purchase tags, missing transaction IDs, broken cross-domain sessions and events firing before consent. Our guide on why you should fix your tracking before you scale walks through the most common issues.

Do I need consent mode v2 for GA4?

If you advertise with Google to users in the European Economic Area or the UK, consent mode v2 is effectively required to keep remarketing and measurement features working. For US-only businesses it is not mandatory, but state privacy laws make a consent-aware setup the safer default.

Consent mode v2 passes the user’s choices to Google tags, including the ad_user_data and ad_personalization signals, and lets Google model some conversions when consent is declined. We configure it with your consent platform and test both the accepted and declined paths.

FAQ

GA4 setup questions.

A standard setup for a single website usually takes a few weeks, depending on how many events you need and how quickly developer changes to the data layer can be shipped. Multi-domain or app plus web properties take longer. We give you a timeline after the initial audit.

Yes, and in most cases that is the better option because it preserves your historical data. We audit the property and GTM container, remove duplicate or broken tags, and rebuild only what needs it.

Google renamed conversions in GA4 to key events, which are the actions you flag as important for analysis. Conversions now refer to key events that are imported into Google Ads for bidding and reporting, so not every key event needs to be a conversion.

It is not strictly required, but we strongly recommend it. GTM keeps tags organized, makes changes testable without code deployments and makes it easier to add consent mode, ad platform tags and server-side tagging later.

Pricing is custom because the work depends on your site, platforms and the number of events involved. Our pricing page explains how we scope projects, and you can request a proposal for a fixed project quote.
