Server-Side Tracking & Conversions API
Server-side tracking moves your tag processing to a server you control, so ad platforms receive more complete conversion data while you decide exactly what is shared. We set up server-side Google Tag Manager, Meta Conversions API and Google enhanced conversions on top of a clean GA4 setup. Everything respects user consent.
Quick answer
What is Server-Side Tracking & Conversions API?
Server-side tracking is a method of sending conversion and analytics data from your own server, rather than only from the visitor’s browser, to tools like GA4, Google Ads and Meta. It typically uses a server-side Google Tag Manager container and platform APIs such as Meta Conversions API, improving data reliability and control.
What you get with server-side tracking.
- Server-side Google Tag Manager container hosted on your own first-party subdomain
- Meta Conversions API with event deduplication against the browser pixel
- Google Ads enhanced conversions using hashed first-party data
- GA4 routed through the server container with parameter cleanup and PII filtering
- Optional TikTok, LinkedIn or other platform server events
- Consent mode v2 enforcement so declined users are handled correctly
- Monitoring checklist and documentation of hosting and data flows
Who it's for
- Brands where Meta or Google Ads reports far fewer conversions than the store or CRM
- E-commerce stores optimizing campaigns toward purchase value
- Teams that want more control over what data third-party tags receive
How we deliver server-side tracking.
- 1
Assess the gap
We compare platform-reported conversions with your backend orders or CRM leads to estimate how much signal you are losing and where.
- 2
Architect the setup
We choose hosting for the server container, map a first-party subdomain and define which events and fields each platform receives.
- 3
Build and deduplicate
We deploy the server container, connect Meta CAPI and enhanced conversions, and pass shared event IDs so browser and server events are not double counted.
- 4
Verify and monitor
We check event match quality in Meta Events Manager and diagnostics in Google Ads, then document how to keep the setup healthy. Cleaner signal also improves your marketing attribution.
Do I need server-side tracking?
You likely need server-side tracking if you spend meaningfully on Meta or Google ads and your platform-reported conversions are noticeably lower than your real orders or leads. Browser privacy features, ad blockers and short cookie lifetimes all reduce what a browser-only pixel can see.
If you run little paid media, or your basic GA4 tracking is still broken, fix the fundamentals first through our core marketing analytics services. Server-side tagging makes good data more reliable; it cannot repair events that were never defined correctly.
How does Meta Conversions API work with the pixel?
Meta Conversions API sends events from your server directly to Meta, and it works best alongside the browser pixel rather than replacing it. Both send the same event with a shared event ID, and Meta keeps one copy through deduplication.
Sending hashed customer details such as email or phone, with consent, improves event match quality, which helps Meta attribute conversions and optimize delivery. Our Meta ads management team uses that improved signal when scaling campaigns.
Is server-side tracking privacy compliant?
Server-side tracking is not automatically compliant or non-compliant; it depends on what you collect and whether you honor consent. Done properly, it gives you more control, because you can strip personal data and block events before anything reaches a vendor.
We enforce consent mode v2 signals in the server container and hash identifiers before sending them. Your legal team should still confirm your consent banner and privacy policy match the data flows we document. If you want a review of your current data flows first, talk to our team.

Server-side tracking questions.
Beyond our setup fee, the server container needs hosting, either on Google Cloud or a managed tagging host. Hosting costs scale with your traffic volume, and we estimate them for your site before you commit.
It should never be used to override a user’s consent choice, and we do not configure it that way. It does make tracking more resilient to technical losses like short browser cookie lifetimes and blocked third-party scripts for users who have consented.
Yes. Shopify supports customer events and native platform integrations, and we can combine those with a server-side GTM container or Meta Conversions API depending on your setup. We choose the approach that avoids duplicate events.
We verify events in GTM server preview, check deduplication and event match quality in Meta Events Manager, and review enhanced conversions diagnostics in Google Ads. We also compare platform conversions against backend orders before and after launch.
Pricing is custom and depends on the number of platforms, events and domains involved. Our pricing page explains how we scope work, and we provide a fixed quote after reviewing your current tracking.
